Oils vs. Lotions

So as you have seen here on Buddhas and Butterflies we have a huge assortment of lotions and oils, we can also customize our skin care products to exactly what our buyers need. Now which do you prefer Oil or lotion? Lets take a dive into what properties each contains and see if they compare.

Oils: Used to seal in hydration, Dermatologists recommend for acne-driven or oily skin, regulates sebum production, evens skin tone, benefits oily skin types, and improves skin barrier function.

Oil regulates sebum production because of its absorbent properties, they mimic the natural lipids found in our skin, which is great because the similarities in structure can help repair and re-regulate your skin’s moisture barrier, which is responsible for oil production.

The oil improves skin barrier function, it has been shown that when oils are absorbed by the skin, the top layers of our skin treat them as their own- resulting in a reparative, moisture effect. This also makes them great for outside workers who can put them on their skin during harsh weather conditions.

Lotions: Used to seal in hydration, absorbs water into the skin because they are partly water-based, moisturizes dry skin, contain active ingredients with long term benefits, and can also prolong the life of your self-tan.

Lotions are a mix of oil and water and typically work better for dry skin, because they are partly water-based they penetrate the skin better, absorbs quickly, and can deliver ingredients that improve the ability of skin to maintain moisture.

When making our lotions we hand pick the ingredients that we feel will be key in making your skin look and feel amazing.

Best time to use both products is right after you get out of the shower or after you wash your face while your skin is still wet. That helps lock in the water. Pat dry and go on with your day.

The results!! Both oils and lotions are comparable, it really just boils down to preference. Lotions because they contain water it can be used more as whenever moisturizer. Keep in mind that ingredients make a difference in what the oil or lotion can do.
